The total output value of China's lithium battery industry will exceed 1.4 trillion yuan in 2023

Data released by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology on the 1st showed that in 2023, 

China's lithium-ion battery (hereinafter referred to as "lithium battery") industry will continue to grow. 

According to the lithium battery industry specification announcement corporate information and industry 

association estimates, the national lithium battery total The output exceeded 940GWh (gigawatt hour), 

a year-on-year increase of 25%, and the total industry output value exceeded 1.4 trillion yuan (RMB, the same below).

In the battery sector, the output of consumer, power, and energy storage lithium batteries from January to 

December 2023 was 80GWh, 675GWh, and 185GWh respectively, and the installed capacity of lithium batteries 

(including new energy vehicles and new energy storage) exceeded 435GWh. Export trade continues to grow. 

From January to December, the country's total lithium battery exports reached 457.4 billion yuan, a year-on-year 

increase of more than 33%.

In the first-level material link, from January to December 2023, the output of cathode materials, anode materials, 

separators, and electrolytes will reach 2.3 million tons, 1.65 million tons, 15 billion square meters, and 1 million 

tons respectively, with increases of more than 15%.

In the second-level material link, the output of lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide from January to December 2023 

is approximately 463,000 tons and 285,000 tons respectively. The average prices of battery-grade lithium carbonate and 

battery-grade lithium hydroxide (micron powder grade) are 258,000 per ton respectively. Yuan and 273,000 Yuan.

Product prices in the lithium battery industry have dropped significantly throughout the year. From January to 

December 2023, the prices of battery cells and battery-grade lithium salts have dropped by more than 50% and 

70% respectively.
